academic excellence

We build knowledge, comprehension, and application of subject matter into our students while developing their critical thinking skills along the way. At Heritage Christian School, we instill these abilities in our students with a Biblical worldview.

Curriculum overview

Kindergarten & 1st Grade

Our Kindergarten and First grade classes use BJU Press for all their subjects, which include Bible class, phonics and language, reading, math,  history, and science. They have art, music, gym, and library time once each week.

Kindergarten is a 5 day a week, half day program.

2nd Grade

Second graders receive instruction for all subjects through BJU Press, except
for penmanship which is through A Beka Books. They also have music, art,
gym, and library classes weekly.

3rd Grade

Third graders receive all of their instruction from the BJU Press Curriculum, except for using A Beka Books to learn the skill of cursive writing. They also have music, art, gym, and library classes weekly.

4th & 5th Grades

Fourth and Fifth graders use BJU Press to study Bible, English, spelling,
math, and literature in a combination class where they receive separate
instruction from the teacher in the lessons for their specific grade. Fourth and Fifth graders study BJU history and science separately in different classrooms each with a teacher. They have weekly music, art, gym, and library classes. They have lunch clean up responsibilities and have access to Chrome Books to learn typing and to research for reports and projects.

6th Grade

Sixth grade uses BJU Press for all subjects and has three different teachers throughout the day; sixth graders join fourth and fifth for Bible, have an independent teacher for spelling, English, literature, and math, and join with 5th grade for science and history. They have weekly music, art, gym, and library classes. They have lunch clean up responsibilities and have access to Chrome Books to learn typing and to research for reports and projects.

7th & 8th Grades

Jr. High students are given Bible, English, literature, history, and math
instruction through BJU Press curriculum. They use Apologia and BJU Press alternating years for science. They have music, art, gym, and typing class. They use Chrome Books regularly for class work, research, report writing, and
submission of assignments.

Jr. High students help with leadership opportunities over the HCS student
body in various ways such as assisting with setting up for events and serving
with fundraising.
